Attention Please note that this is a schematic drawing and may differ from the real product. Especially with regard to the color reproduction, there may be significant differences due to your individual display settings, which is why we can not guarantee the color fastness. The materials have different stretching properties, so it is possible that the final size deviates up to about +/- 3% from the ordered size.

FAQ

General

  • Which fabric is best for my project?

The choice of fabric depends on many different criteria. You can find a description of the properties of each material on the fabrics page.

  • Do I have to expect additional costs?

Shipping costs may be added to the prices listed on the web. This will be shown during the check-out process.

  • What are the individual roll widths of the materials?

    Austronet 940: 2.00 m / 3.00 m / 3.80 m / 4.00 m
    Austrosail Acrylic: solid colors: 1.52 m / block stripes: 1.20 m
    Austrosail PES: 1.70 m
    Austrosail Maxim: 1.70 m
Sections of the individual rolls are available on request.

  • Why do I have to specify the diagonal for irregular quadrilaterals?

If you specify four side lengths and at least one diagonal, the product has a fixed shape and can be made exactly to measure, without additional specifications of angles, etc. Only with five specifications, a sun sail can be clearly defined in its shape.

  • What is the delivery time?

The delivery time is max. 3-4 weeks, depending on the season

  • Why do I have a seam in my canvas, privacy screen etc.?

Seams in the cloth are caused by the different roll widths of the individual materials/colors and unfortunately cannot be avoided. This is not a reason for complaint.

  • Are the materials opaque?

The majority of all fabrics can be described as opaque. If the fabric is in use somewhere, you can't see through it, or at least as good as not. Ultimately, this depends on the color chosen and the amount of light (behind the fabric). Light colors (e.g. white) appear less opaque than dark / muted colors, all other things being equal. When exposed to light, all colors and materials lighten, you can see shadows through!

  • Are the materials translucent?

Our materials are translucent. Each of our materials lightens up when it is under sunlight.

  • What does gray break mean?

Due to buckling in some types of fabrics, gray breaks (optical folds in the material) may occur during the manufacturing process. At the place of the crease, a dark line may be visible on the surface of the textile in backlight, especially with light colors, and a light line with dark colors. With some types of fabric, gray breaks are unavoidable - this is currently the state of the art. These effects have no influence whatsoever on the quality, functionality or service life of the fabric or cloth. On the contrary, the visually characteristic texture in the fabric gives the material an additional, interesting touch.

Awning

      • My awning was delivered too small?

The awning must be measured with the sides and D-rings stretched. In addition, a dimensional tolerance of +/- 3% is possible due to production.

      • Why should I not leave the sails hanging in bad weather?

In case of rain, water pockets can form which deform the material, such deformations do not recover. Strong wind can stress the sail so much that it tears. Therefore, be sure to remove the awning in bad weather.

      • Are accessories taken into account?

Only if you select "attachment point" in the configurator when dimensioning.

      • Does the D-ring count towards the awning dimension?

Yes, the D-ring counts towards the sail dimension and must be measured as well.

      • Why are the side edges concave and how big is this concavity?

In a classic sun sail, the side edges are not cut straight, but in an arc towards the center of the sail - in other words, concave. When the sun sail is mounted and properly tensioned, the concave side lengths are drawn into a straight line and minimize the sag in the center of the sail. In a manner of speaking, the fabric is pulled out from the center of the sail. The concave cut of the sun sail is responsible for perfect tensioning. The concavity is between 3-4%.

      • What do you mean by the dimensional deviations of +/- 3%?

The materials have different stretching properties, so it is possible that the final dimension is +/- 3% different from the ordered dimension. This is not a reason for complaint.

      • Can I have an easy 2 shade sun awning stretched as a fixed installation for the whole year?

Sun sails should not be stretched for the whole year, especially in bad weather and in winter the sail should be dismantled.

      • How big can I order a sun sail?

The maximum size for a fixed awning is between 50 - 60 m². However, it should be noted that at this size it is already problematic to stretch the awning tightly.

      • Can I also adjust the height of a sun awning?

A sun sail can also be adjustable in height, if you mount the sail on our telescopic masts with integrated height adjustment, or choose another height adjustment.

      • Can I also mount a sun sail on the wall?

A sun sail can be attached to the wall by means of wall plates or a mounting plate.

      • How do I fix a sun sail mast in the ground?

You can fasten a sun sail mast in a concrete foundation or a screw foundation using a ground sleeve.

      • Can I remove a sun sail mast or dismantle it in winter?

If necessary, you can remove the sun sail mast again from the ground sleeve, the screw foundation or the ground plate.

      • How should the awning be hung?

The sun sail should be attached exactly in the center and bisecting the angle between the intended attachment points. Pay close attention to this, as slight deviations in direction will very quickly result in wrinkling of the canvas.

      • Does a sun sail also serve as rain protection?

A sun sail can also serve as a rain protection in case of light rain, for this purpose it must be noted that the cloth should have an inclination of at least 15 degrees so that the rain water can run off. However, make sure that no water bulges can form - this can cause permanent damage to the sail (also to be considered with the Austronet 940 material). You can check the optimal drainage of the water by spraying the sail with the garden hose. You can find more information about this under the product guarantees!

Roman shade

      • What are the widths of the materials?

        Austronet 940 : 40 cm field width
Austrosail PES + Autsrosail Acryl : 50 cm field width

      • How far does the gathered shade hang down in the gathered state?

Since the field widths of a gathered shade are between 40 - 50 cm, the gathered shade hangs down between 20 - 25 cm when gathered.

      • How much and what accessories do I need for my Roman shade?

For a width of less than 2m: wire rope (2x length + 2 x width), 1 gathering tension set, 4 eyebolts with wood thread or eyebolts with thread+nut. For width over 2m: wire rope (3x length + 2x width), 2 gathering sets, 6 wood-threaded eyebolts or threaded eyebolts + nut

      • Why is Austronet 940 recommended for Roman blinds?

Austronet 940 is water- and air-permeable and rot-proof, which makes it a perfect outdoor material.

      • Does a Roman shade also serve as rain protection?

The Roman shade can be used as a light rain protection, but a rain drainage system must be selected in the configurator.

      • What do I do with the Roman shade in winter?

It is best to store the external venetian blind in winter. For this purpose, you should make sure that the material is completely dry, so that no mildew stains can occur during storage.

      • Can I also install a Roman shade between 2 walls?

A Roman shade can also be installed between 2 walls. You only need to determine the individual fixing points on the walls.

      • Can I install a Roman shade between 4 poles?

You should not install a Roman shade between 4 free-standing poles. The external blind should be attached to a stable structure such as a pergola or the like.

      • What is the maximum size of a Roman shade?

The maximum width of a Roman shade is 4 meters and the maximum length is 8 meters.

      • Can I use a Roman shade indoors as well?

You can also install a Roman shade indoors, such as in a conservatory, etc.

      • Can I also install a Roman shade at an angle?

You can read our installation instructions under installation instructions. There you can see the individual installation options.

      • What is the distance between the wire ropes and the fabric?

The distance between the fabric and the wire rope depends on the fastening material you use to hang your Roman blind.

Wind & privacy protection

      • Is it possible to make special requests for the eyelets?

No special requests can be accepted for the setting of eyelets.

      • Are polygons also possible?

        Polygons are not possible.

Accessories

      • Can stainless steel rust?

Any stainless steel can corrode under certain conditions. We use for our products mainly V2A stainless steel with WNr. 1.4301, which is a non-rusting stainless steel grade. Corrosion resistant steels (V2A) can flash rust if they come into contact with stainless steel or rust. Brown rust deposits on stainless steel are rarely corrosion products of stainless steel. In most cases, they originate from particles of non-alloyed steel that have reached the surface and formed rust (extraneous rust) there.

Example: There is a road junction or a railroad in the immediate vicinity. When braking, brake dust with rusting material is produced, which lands on the stainless steel products through the air. These microscopic particles can corrode on the stainless steel surface at high humidity (flash rust).

If these spots are cleaned in time, the corrosion resistance of the surface is maintained. Stainless steel should always be kept clean. Dirt on the surface can trigger chemical reactions that can attack the passive layer of the stainless steel over time. As a result, the corrosion resistance of even high-quality stainless steels is lost over time. In areas where contamination occurs more frequently, cleaning must also occur more frequently.

      • How to remove rust from stainless steel?

The best way is to use cleaners and maintenance products suitable for A2V stainless steel. Many of these cleaners clean and maintain the surface, as well as leave a protective layer that additionally prevents corrosion. If the surface is only slightly discolored, it is usually sufficient to clean the affected areas with a commercially available sponge, water and pH neutral dishwashing detergent. After the cleaning process, rinse with clean water and dry the cleaned surface. Aggressive cleaning agents should be avoided in all cases, however, as they can attack the protective chromium oxide layer. In general, cleaning agents containing chlorine should be avoided.
